Bio

Michael Borgstrom is  an Associate Dean for the College of Arts and Letters and Professor of English and Comparative Literature. He received his Ph.D. from the University of California, Davis in 2002. He served as Chair of English and Comparative Literature from 2014-2019, co-founded and co-directed SDSU's LGBTQ Research Consortium, and most recently served as Director of the Center for Teaching and Learning.

Borgstrom's scholarship centers around American literature, sexuality and gender studies, African American literature, and critical race theory. He is the author of Befriending the Queer Nineteenth Century: Curious Attachments (Routledge; Interdisciplinary Perspectives on Literature series) and Minority Reports: Identity and Social Knowledge in Nineteenth-Century American Literature (Palgrave Macmillan; Future of Minority Studies series). Additionally, his work has appeared in journals such as PMLA, African American Review, ESQ: A Journal of the American Renaissance, Journal of Homosexuality, and Pedagogy, as well as several edited collections.
