Bio

Monika Sokolowska Birch earned her B.A. in Literature and Writing from California State University San Marcos in 2020 and her M.A. in English and Comparative Literature from San Diego State University in 2022. She currently lectures in the Department of Rhetoric and Writing Studies at SDSU.

Originally from Poland, Monika moved to the United States in her late twenties in pursuit of the American Dream. Bilingual in Polish and English, with basic proficiency in Russian, she brings a deep empathy for English language learners and a nuanced understanding of navigating multiple cultures.

Her literary interests include magical realism, Polish and Irish literature, representations of trauma, popular culture, and the intersections of culture. In her free time, Monika enjoys hiking with binoculars in hand, photographing birds, and occasionally rescuing them.
