Bio

Sandy Fimbres is a proud alumnus of San Diego State University, where she completed both her undergraduate and graduate studies in American Literature. She has served as a lecturer in the Department of Rhetoric and Writing Studies for over twenty years and proudly calls herself an Aztec.

Throughout her time at SDSU, Sandy has witnessed and embraced the university’s remarkable growth and transformation. From navigating campus construction as both a student and instructor, to celebrating milestones such as the opening of the Pride Center, Veterans Center, and the addition of inclusive amenities like gender-neutral restrooms and refillable water stations, she has remained deeply engaged in the evolving campus culture.

What defines her teaching career most, however, is the diverse community of students she has taught over the years. While she has aimed to strengthen their writing skills and foster a deeper appreciation for the craft, Sandy believes her students have given her far more in return—offering glimpses into their lives, experiences, and perspectives through their words.
