Congratulations to Erika Robb Larkins, professor of anthropology, endowed chair of the Behner Stiefel Center for Brazilian Studies, and center director, who has been elected president of the Brazilian Studies Association (BRASA).

Founded in 1992, BRASA is an international, interdisciplinary group of nearly 1,000 scholars who support and promote the study of Brazil in all fields, especially in the humanities and social sciences.

Larkins began her term as president on April 3, 2024, which coincided with the organization’s biennial conference, hosted by the Behner Stiefel Center for Brazilian Studies and San Diego State University. The conference featured 150 panels spread over four days, with nearly 600 attendees from across the nation and world.

Larkins is the successor to Harvard Professor Sidney Chalhoub, who was BRASA president for the past two years. Larkins is joined in leadership with incoming BRASA Vice President Fábio de Sá e Silva, a University of Oklahoma professor.
