Geography Department Celebrates and Honors Alumni and Faculty at Annual Event
San Diego State University's Department of Geography hosted its biannual Geography Alumni BBQ on Sunday, July 14. The event, sponsored by Quartic Solutions, featured a catered reception, networking opportunities, and an open house of the Department of Geography.
The event kicked off with introductory remarks from the College of Arts and Letters Dean Todd Butler, who highlighted the department's achievements, the recent addition of esteemed faculty members and the contributions of dedicated faculty, donors, and alumni.
Following Dean Butler, the Department of Geography Chair Fernando Bosco, provided updates on the department's progress over the past two years. He highlighted the increase in undergraduate and graduate enrollment, the success of student organizations, and the department's impressive research output.
The event also recognized the retirement of Professors Doug Stow and John O'Leary, who made significant contributions to the department. Additionally, staff member Harry Johnson was recognized for his service.
In a special segment of the program, Richard Wright, geography faculty emeritus, was honored with the inaugural Richard Wright Philanthropy Award for his generous contributions to the department and the College of Arts and Letters.
