The mission of CAL Web Services is to enable the CAL community to develop an effective presence on-line. It assists CAL departments and faculty in producing web sites in accordance with professional standards, accessibility considerations, and SDSU guidelines. The main focus is to design and maintain departments and other collective units' web sites. In addition, every effort is made to respond to faculty requests regarding their faculty web sites.

Policy

I. Web Site Design & Maintenance

1. Collective Units: Departments/ Institutes/ Centers/ Programs (Priority 1)

1.1 Units will identify a faculty or staff representative with decision-making authority to work with the CAL Web Consultant.

1.2 The unit representative is responsible for providing all web site content and project sign-offs to the Web Consultant within an agreed time frame for the design phase of the site.

1.3 It is the preferred that once the site is designed by CAL Web Services, that it also be maintained by them.

1.4 For maintenance requests, the Web Services should be given at least one week’s advance notice.

1.5 Priority for requests will be determined by the date of last design for the unit.

1.7 Units which employ their own webmaster are responsible for the design, maintenance, and trouble shooting of their own sites.

2. Individual Faculty (Priority 2)

2.1 Tenured/tenured-track faculty may choose to have their own web site created by the CAL Web Consultant.

II. Web Site Support

1. Troubleshooting issues on existing web sites should be addressed to Ginger Stockdale (x41360 or stockdal@mail.sdsu.edu).

2. Web site maintenance requests should be addressed via email to Ginger Stockdale at stockdal@mail.sdsu.edu.

3.  If a unit elects to maintain their own site that has been designed by the CAL Web Consultant, troubleshooting any problems with the site will be given the lowest priority.

III. Additional Considerations

1. Documents that require updating (vitae, syllabi, newsletters, etc;) will be formatted as PDF files and displayed by Adobe Acrobat Reader.

2. Projects and programs which receive non-state funding are NOT eligible for web services.
