Academic Probation and Disqualification
Academic Probation
The purpose of probation is to warn students that their academic performance is below the state minimum required for graduation and to indicate that improvement is required before a degree can be granted.
- An undergraduate student whose cumulative or campus grade point average falls below 2.0 will be placed on academic probation at the end of the semester.
- If a student earns a 2.0 or better while on academic probation, academic probation will be continued up to a maximum of three semesters.
- Academic probation will be lifted when the student has raised both her/his cumulative and campus grade point averages to 2.0 or better.
- While on academic probation, if a student does not earn a semester grade point average of 2.0 or better, that student will be disqualified.
- At the end of the third semester of academic probation, if the student's cumulative grade point average has not been raised to 2.0 or better, that student will be disqualified.

Disqualification
Please note that students who have been disqualified from San Diego State University will not be allowed to attend Open University or College of Extended Studies classes until one year from the date of their disqualification.
- Students with majors in the College of Arts and Letters who have been re-admitted on probation will have an advising hold on their registration.
- Before the hold can be lifted, the student must have an advising appointment with the adviser of her/his major.
- Once the student has had her/his advising appointment, the adviser will contact the Assistant Dean's Office to have the student's hold removed.
