Thomas Paine Symposium : Common Sense for the Modern Era

The
College of Arts and Letters
at San Diego State University is sponsoring a symposium on October
21-22, 2005 in San Diego, California. This interdisciplinary symposium
brings together leading international scholars on Paine and his
times, who will attempt to situate Paine’s work historically
and/or comment about the importance of his ideas and the debates
surrounding them for the modern era.
This symposium will feature a keynote address by internationally known scholar Eric Foner, presentations by noted schoolars, Joyce Appleby, Susan Jacoby, and Harvey Kaye, a special exhibit and talk by Brian McCartin, President of the Thomas Paine National Historical Association, and four different panels of scholars addressing various themes.
The Symposium is free and open to the public.
