Cajon Valley Middle School students visit SDSU Campus

Cajon Valley Middle School students with SDSU Football playersOn May 16, 2005, 45 Cajon Valley Middle School students toured the SDSU campus. The students toured the Cox Arena, Aztec Hall of Fame, where 9 football players took time out of their busy schedules to talk to the students, Open Air Theater, Trolley stop, library and the new College of Arts and Letters building. Dave Christensen of Barnhart Construction talked to the students about the new building and careers in engineering and construction as a whole. The student’s day ended with sandwiches outside of Scripps cottage and a visit by Dean Wong of the College of Arts and Letters.

These students are not your average middle school students. Many of the students are refugees and immigrants from Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, Mexico, etc. Many of the students had not been on a college campus before. The Classics Department at SDSU supports the Cajon Valley Latin Project located at the Cajon Valley Middle School to assist ESL students to be better prepared to pass their standardized tests. The students expressed great interest in attending SDSU. The students have great goals of becoming doctors and lawyers. It was a pleasure to have such a nice group of students visit SDSU, and we wish them all the best.

Special thanks Paul Wong, Dean of the College of Arts and Letters, Ashlee Chooljian, Allison Shay, Mike Dils of Cox Arena, Steve Irvin of SDSU Athletics and the following football players; Brandon Bornes, Eric Hodge, Freddy Keiaho, Aloalii Lealofi, Joe Martin, Kevin O’Connell, Fale Poumele and Jeff Webb.
