THE SPRING 2008 WORKSHOP SERIES IS FREE
*A $25 deposit (to be returned at the first meeting) is required to hold your place.

In collaboration with the SDSU Center for Arabic and Islamic Studies, ISTEP is offering a two-part series of workshops exploring the world of Islam - its origins, fundamental beliefs and practices, and its influence and impact on the world, both historically and today.

Our Spring series of workshops focuses on "Islam in the World: Middle Ages to the Modern Era." Along with demostrations of instructional materials and classroom activities for teaching about Islam; speakers from the Departments of History at SDSU and UCSD, and the Departments of Economics and Political Science at SDSU will address a variety of topics directly relevant to the 7th and 10th grade curricula, but of interest to all of us in these days and times, including
  • Economics of the Middle East in the Middle Ages
  • History of the Late Ottoman Empire
  • Twentieth Century Middle Eastern History
  • The Islamic World East of Iran: Politics of Colonial and Post-Colonial Periods
  • Islam and the West - Beyond the So-Called Clash of Civilizations
