The College of Arts and Letters is the home of the humanities and the social sciences at San Diego State University. It is the University's cornerstone college, producing one-third of the total credit hours generated by the university and providing the core liberal arts courses required for all SDSU's bachelor's degrees. With over two hundred permanent faculty and many associated lecturers, Arts and Letters is the largest of the seven colleges at San Diego State University.

SDSU was the first university in the country to establish a women's studies program in 1970. Forty-two years later, the Department of Women's Studies employs twenty-two faculty and offers graduate as well as undergraduate degrees.
